SKIP Safe Kids Identification Program
Who
and What is SKIP? The American Institute On Domestic Violence is a nonprofit organization that has long been dedicated to the safety of women, children and their families. Our signature project is called SKIP - Safe Kids Identification Program.
SKIP is the most comprehensive child ID program available. These ID kits provide law enforcement agencies with critical information that dramatically improves agency response time when trying to locate a missing child or issue an Amber Alert.
Every parent’s worst nightmare is the disappearance of a child. In today’s society with over 800,000 children reported missing each year, the problem cannot be ignored.
The good news is many children can be recovered if their parents immediately provide police with a complete DIGITAL record of identification.
Our SKIP Safe Kids Identification Program has been developed under the thoughtful direction of many dedicated people in law enforcement, human services and abuse prevention. It is the most comprehensive child identification program available in America. SKIP has two components.
The first component is a state-of-the-art computer ID program that saves two photographs of your child...a front portrait and a side profile...and vital statistics about the child such as height, weight, eye and hair color, birthmarks, scars and medical issues. This information is stored on the parent's home computer.
As the child grows, the parent continues to update the child's information. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, this update should be done every six months to make sure that all identifying information & pictures are current.
In the event of an emergency, the SKIP computer program can create and print --- at the click of a button ---a Missing Child Poster to distribute, complete with pictures, identifying data and details about the child’s distinguishing characteristics, clothing and the place of disappearance. More importantly, this poster can be immediately EMAILED to the police to determine whether to issue an Amber Alert for the missing child.
Parents can also make back-up copies to send with the children when they travel on visitation or vacation!
The
second component involves a Toothprints dental wafer
that captures the child's bite pattern --- which is as unique to each individual
as fingerprints ---their DNA & the child's scent for police tracking dogs.
Toothprints are an amazing documentation and recovery tool for missing children. SKIP is proud to offer the Toothprints dental wafer as part of our digital ID kits.

LOCATE SEX OFFENDERS! Every parent should stay informed about the safety and risks of their neighborhoods to protect their children. One way of doing this is to find out where registered sex offenders live around you.
For a list of every state sex offender registry website, go to http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cid/cac/states.htm.
In Arizona, go to Department of Public Safety website at http://az.gov/webapp/offender/main.do and click on "search" on the left navigation panel. You may search by name, address or zip code. You can also view a list of sex offenders who have absconded.
Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
The Origin of SKIP Safe Kids ID
SKIP was born out of our work with battered women in domestic violence shelters. In interviewing many of these victims, we identified a clear lack of services to protect their children. One of these Mom's greatest fears is that their abuser will locate the children in shelter and kidnap them, as retribution for the victim leaving. Based on this, we created the SKIP Program.
We quickly began receiving feedback from other organizations and schools in our communities that all children should have access to the SKIP Program. As such, SKIP took a big leap out into America, to help every parent realize the importance of a good quality digital ID for their children.
The Problem with Fingerprints and ID Cards Parents
should understand the difference between old-fashioned child ID cards
or fingerprints and the SKIP digital ID program so they can make an informed decision about the safety of their children. Modern
problems require modern solutions. Fingerprints
and ID cards are an old-fashioned way of dealing with a modern problem and do not take advantage of the newest technology that
is available to bring kids home safely…and quickly. SKIP offers
computerized technology for returning children as quickly as possible: with a
digital computer disk! Statistics
show that time itself is the enemy of an abducted child. The
first three hours are the most critical in the recovery of a missing
child. SKIP allows for the quick transfer of child
information to the police for an Amber Alert. Fingerprints are of little
value for an Amber Alert. Child
ID cards cannot be updated to keep pictures and information current. We
are strongly against anyone maintaining data on children, especially if they
are not police officers that have passed thorough criminal background checks.
Commercial companies have no business keeping your child’s
pictures or data. With the SKIP disk, the parents are encouraged to update the
physical information about the child every 6 months since kids grow so fast.
Once they have a SKIP disk, they can update it until the child is
30 if they want to!
Fingerprints identify bodies.
SKIP
Safe Kids Identification Program focuses
on bringing your child home safely via Amber Alert.
SKIP
is collaborating with other
missing child organizations in creating this network to help bring missing
children home. Our
mutual goal is to reunite these children with their families.
We are accomplishing our mission through the benevolence of the business community, local citizens and sponsoring organizations.
We know child abductions and missing children cross many borders. That is why SKIP is networking with great people and organizations like:
