Our Trainers

Coleen Widell and Rick Naylor, co-founders of the American Institute on Domestic Violence, have many years of experience in social service, criminal justice and business management.

During the years Coleen & Rick have been associated, they have combined their business and criminal justice backgrounds to develop an employee and management training program that addresses domestic violence as a security threat and workplace issue.

Coleen Widell  has held positions in criminal justice, direct services and public administration.

Coleen served as a Probation Officer in Washington for fifteen years working with criminal offenders and abused women and their children. She also conducted investigations of child abuse and neglect for the Department of Social & Health Services.

She is the author of many books and articles about domestic violence spillover into the workplace, including "Domestic Violence Targets the Heart of American Business", "Business Security" and "Women Rising from the Ashes."

She is a contributing writer for several national newspapers, business and security journals and magazines on the subject of employer liability and responsibility related to domestic violence in the workplace.

Coleen researched and developed the training programs for the American Institute on Domestic Violence.  These workshops, entitled “Domestic Violence Targets the Heart of American Business”, address the affects of domestic violence in the workplace.  The National Crime Prevention Council has highlighted these workshops as a "Best Practice."

All of our seminars are custom-designed based on the training needs of the individual business and consist of workshops for both employees and supervisors.

Rick Naylor has over 40 years experience in both law enforcement and executive management.  He is a dedicated researcher on the myths of domestic violence and how it affects the workplace.

Rick started working in law enforcement while studying executive business practices in Michigan.

His specialty in business was in limiting employee turnover and expanding the profit margin. He represented a national insurance provider in Chicago and a major tobacco company in Montreal before taking over as CEO for SportsWorld Products in San Diego.

Rick also co-author the book “In Search of a Perfect Attitude” as a motivational tool and a self-esteem builder for people experiencing the tough challenges of life.

Rick has a compelling dedication to educate corporate America concerning domestic violence coming to the workplace, the liability involved and the methods by which they can protect themselves.
