Coleen Widell

Coleen Widell is president and co-founder of the American Institute on Domestic Violence.

 

Coleen has held professional positions in criminal justice, direct services and public administration.She served as a Probation Officer in Washington for fifteen years working with criminal offenders and abused women and their children. She also conducted investigations of child abuse and neglect for the Department of Social & Health Services. 

She is the author of the book "Domestic Violence Targets the Heart of American Business" and a contributing writer for the book, "Business Security." In partnership with Denise Brown, Coleen co-authored a chapter on domestic violence for the book " Women Rising from the Ashes." She researched and developed the workplace training programs for the American Institute on Domestic Violence.The National Crime Prevention Council has highlighted these programs as a "Best Practice" for employer intervention to address domestic violence as a security threat and workplace issue.
